Battle For Las Vegas
From the 1970s through the mid-1980s, the Chicago Outfit dominated organized crime in Las Vegas. Unreported revenue, known as the “skim,” from Outfit-controlled casinos made its way out of Vegas by the bagful, ending up in the coffers of the Windy City crime bosses and their confederates around the Midwest.
To ensure the smooth flow of cash, the gangsters installed a front man with no criminal background, Allen R. Glick, as the casino owner of record, Frank “Lefty” Rosenthaal as the real boss of casino operations, and Tony Spilotro as the ultimate enforcer, who’d do whatever it took to protect their interests. It wasn’t long before Spilotoro, also in charge of Vegas street crime, was known as the “King of the Strip.”
Federal and local law enforcement, recognizing the need to rid the casinos of the mob and shut down Spilotro’s rackets, declared war on organized crime. The Battle for Las Vegas relates the story of the fight between the tough buys on both sides, told in large part by the agents and detectives who knew they had to win.

Caylee Anthony Update
I have scheduled a special Blog Talk Radio show devoted to the Caylee Anthony case for 7 pm Central on Wednesday, February 4th. My guest for the program will be true crime author Diane Fanning. Diane is under contract with her publisher to write the Caylee Anthony story. She is not – I repeat is not - in any way affiliated with any member of the Anthony family. The Anthonys have no financial interest in the project, and the book is being written without their specific permission or approval.
If you are considering tuning in to the show, I suggest you visit http://www.womenincrimeink.blogspot.com and scroll down to Diane’s post of January 13. You can also obtain additional information about Diane from her site at http://www.dianefanning.com/homepage.html.
During the show I’ll discuss with Diane all things Anthony, including her knowledge of the main players, what she thinks actually happened to Caylee, the strength of the prosecution’s case, and the research she’s already done and must yet do in order to complete the book.
You’ll be able to catch the program live at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/dennisngriffin. Diane will take your questions by phone or through the chat room. If you think you’ll listen or participate, you may want to visit the site ahead of time to get familiar with the call in number and chat feature.
